NGA Falcons sweep week in hoops play

Ninth Grade Academy’s Falcons picked up two wins last week. On Thursday, NGA won at home over Forrest JV. On Monday, the Falcons defeated Moore County on the road.
NGA’s record is 5-3 to date.
The game with the Rockets was a battle. It was tied at 9-9 at the end of the first quarter.
The lead changed 12 times in the second period. With 17 seconds on the clock, Blake Bassham put the Falcons up 24-22. But, the Rockets tied it at 24-24 with 10 seconds going into the intermission.
In the opening minutes of the third, NGA got on a 7-0 run up 31-24. But, turnovers put Forrest back in the game. With 2:15 in the period, the Rockets took the lead 33-21. Ryan Hall added two baskets, and Dillon Jean had one in the final minutes. At the end of three, the Falcons were back on top, 37-34.
NGA would never trail again. The boys won the fourth period, 12-9, to finish with the win.
Ryan Hall set the pace with 17 points. Eli Eason followed with 12; Tyler McCown, 6; Dylan Anderson and William Arnold, 4; Blake Bassham, Shelton Smith and Dillon scored 2.
The Falcons were 22 of 49 inside and 0-1 from the arch. From the line, NGA was 5 of 8.
On Monday of last week, the Falcons won on the road over Moore County, 50-31.

The Falcons were up 12-8 at the end of the first quarter but broke the game open, winning the second period, 19-4. Tyler McCown added 7 points in the eight minutes.
NGA was up 31-12 at the break.
With 2:28 in the third, the Raiders cut the margin to 15 points with the Falcons up 35-20, but that was as close as it would get.
Coach Sherry Horton used ten players on the court in the second half. The Falcons won the final frame, 9-7, to finish with the win.
Tyler McCown and Shelton Smith led the scoring with 11 points each. Dylan Anderson finished with 10; Eli Eason, 9; Ryan Hall and Dillon Jean had 2.
The Falcons were 18 of 44 from the paint and 3 of 9 from the arch. From the line, NGA was 5 of 14. Eason, McCown and Slayton had shots from long range.
Moore County had 10 turnovers; the NGA boys finished with 33. The Falcons had 18 steals, led by Smith with 5. NGA won the boards, 38-10.
For their next action, the Falcons were to host Shelbyville on Monday of this week. On Thursday, they travel to Giles County. Game times are at 6 p.m.
