Obituaries for Jan. 16 edition

Wilma Christine Arnold, 88, of Tullahoma, died Wednesday (Dec. 26, 2012) at Harton Hospital in Tullahoma. A native of Coffee County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Lee and Narcie Bell Tuck Tucker. In her earlier years, Mrs. Arnold worked at Genesco Shoe Factory. She was a homemaker, as well as an avid gardener, excellent cook and wonderful seamstress. She loved children, especially her grandsons, David and Thomas. She also loved her cats. She was a very good friend to Dot Medley and many others. She had enjoyed living at Ameritus for two years and was a founding member of Grace Baptist Church in Tullahoma. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by husbands, Elzie Richard Jones and Gordon Richard Arnold, as well as ten siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Patsy Jean Scott and son-in-law Allen Lee Scott, and two grandsons, David Allen Scott and Thomas Andrew Scott, all of Brentwood. Funeral services were Saturday (Dec. 29) in the Tullahoma Funeral Home Chapel with Bros. Tim McGehee and Wallace Rowland officiating. Lee Roy Ashby, 83, of Fayetteville, died Friday (Jan. 11, 2013) at Lincoln Medical Center. He was born on June 13, 1929 in Lincoln County to the late Wilse and Ella Walker Ashby. Mr. Ashby worked as a tile setter and marble cutter and was of the Church of God faith. Mr. Ashby is survived by daughters, Deonna Ashby, Shelia Manley, Sandra and Ronnie Baker, Shirley Kennedy, Frances Rollins, all of Fayetteville; sons, Jackie Ashby, Bobby Hicks, both of Fayetteville, Ricky and Debbie Ashby, David Ashby, Claude and Belle Hicks, Jr., all of Hazel Green, Ala.; sisters, Johnnie Crownover of Huntsville, Ala., Velma Painter of Winchester; brother, Robert and Retha Ashby of Winchester; twenty-nine grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon in the chapel of Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home with Pastor Eric Lones officiating. Burial will follow in Lincoln Cemetery. Bobby Richard Darnell, Jr., 54, of Fayetteville, died Tuesday (Jan. 8, 2013). He is survived by his wife, Virginia Ann Darnell; three sons, Darrin Frisinger and wife, Angela, Christopher Frisinger and Jared Frisinger; two daughters, Tricia Frisinger Kraft and Amy Budeau and husband Rob; mother, Pat Helton; sister, Rene’ Palm and husband, Darryl; two brothers, Billy Scott Darnell and Chris Darnell; three grandsons, Jimmy Frisinger, Dylan Budeau and Cody Budeau; three granddaughters, Jolie Frisinger, Emma Frisinger and Taylor Frisinger; several nieces and nephews; a very special friend, Dean Griepentrog; and his little Princess. Visitation was held Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Berryhill Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Victory Chapel Church in Park City with Pastor Charles Mayo officiating. Mary Ophelia Foster, 75, of Ardmore, died Wednesday (Jan. 9, 2013) at her home. She was born Wednesday (Feb. 10, 1937) in Fayetteville. She was the daughter of the late Eli Fletcher Bryant and the late Ruby Roper Bryant. She was a life-long resident of this area and a member of Cash Point Baptist Church. She loved her kids and grandkids. Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Jim Dalton Foster of Ardmore; sons, Bobby D. Foster, Billy D. Foster and Barry D. (Amanda Holland) Foster, all of Ardmore; daughter, Becky D. Brown (David Revere) of Ardmore; grandchildren, Michelle Loggins, Jennifer Foster and Justin Foster; and four great-grandchildren. Rex Danner Markham, 54, of Toney, Ala., died Wednesday (Jan. 9, 2013). Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon with Bro. Tony Boyles, Pastor Mike Sawyer, Ron Corn and Ed Sparks officiating. Interment was Sunday in Lamar County. Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Zela McDougal, 89, of Fayetteville, died Thursday night (Jan. 10, 2013) in Donalson Care Center. A native of Lincoln County, Mrs. McDougal was the daughter of the late Frank and Lucy Osborne Towry. She was a former employee of Serbin Fashions and a member of the Park City Church of Christ. Survivors include two sons, Rickey Simmons and Doug Elliott, both of Fayetteville; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Mary Towry. Mrs. McDougal was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Elizabeth Elliott; sisters, Tina Mae Cowan and Dot Mason; and brothers, Herman and Dillard Towry. Graveside service was conducted Sunday afternoon at Prospect Cemetery with Bro. Jim Black officiating. Betty Jean McGehee, age 81, of Opelika, Ala., died Sunday (Jan. 13, 2013) at East Alabama Medical Center. A native of Lincoln County, Mrs. McGehee had been a resident of Opelika for the past 25 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Opelika and sang in the Senior Adult Choir. She is survived by her husband, Bennie McGehee of Opelika; daughter, Faye (Don) Wasson of Demopolis, Ala.; son, Scot (Deborah) McGehee of Pineville, Mo.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Willie J. Halcomb of Lawrenceville, Ga.; three brothers, Max Tripp of Tullahoma, Paul Tripp of Fayetteville, and Massey Tripp of Louisville, Ky. A memorial service will be held at Wednesday, Jan. 16, at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Mike King officiating. Jerry Lane Polly, 60, of Ardmore, died Tuesday (Jan. 8, 2013) at National Health Care  Center in Pulaski. Mary Virginia Scott, 83, of Fayetteville, died Wednesday morning (Jan. 9, 2013) at Donalson Care Center. A native of Washata County, Okla., Mrs. Scott was the daughter of the late Robert F. and Mattie Frances Glazier Cothrum. She was a homemaker, former employee of Tennessee Telephone and Telegraph and a member of the Brown Teal Baptist Church. Survivors include her daughter, Vicki Scott (Cole) Scofield of Fayetteville, Rickey (JoAnn) Scott of Fayetteville, Tommy (Amber) Scott of Lewisburg and David (Jean) Scott of Cornersville; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and special friends, Howard and Shelia Stahl. Mrs. Scott was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Scott, who passed away November 2012. Funeral services were conducted Saturday morning at Higgins Funeral Home with Bros. Tom Smith officiating. Vicki Harris Stewart, 55, of Cullman, Ala., died Tuesday (Jan. 8, 2013) at her residence. She was born on Nov. 10, 1957 to parents, Jasper Green and Ophelia Tipton Harris. She was preceded in death by her father; a brother, Billy Harris; and sister-in-law, Teresa Harris. Survivors include her mother; husband, Robert Stewart; daughters, Christi Harris and Melissa Anderson; a sister, Shelley Echols; two grandchildren, Zoey Freeman and Victoria Anderson. Molly Pauline Thompson, 89, of Fayetteville died Tuesday morning (Jan. 8, 2013) at Donalson Skill Care. A native of Lincoln County, Mrs. Thompson was the daughter of the late Clayton and Sally Lynch Tucker, was a former employee of Serbin Fashions and a member of the Maranatha Baptist Church. Survivors include her children, Charlotte (Gary) Williams of Montgomery, Ala., Jimmy Thompson of Fayetteville, Gene (Wanda) Thompson of Mulberry, Cathy (Kevin) Santoya of Eton, Ga., Mike (Kathy) Thompson of Fayetteville and Melody (Mike) Layne of Fayetteville; daughter-in-law, Rosemary Thompson of Fayetteville; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon at Higgins Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Nichols officiating. Burial followed in Stewarts Cemetery beside her husband, Billy Ashley Thompson. Conada “Granddaddy” Wells, 57, of Fayetteville, died Tuesday (Jan. 8, 2013) at his residence. He was born on Nov. 17, 1955, in Lincoln County to Roger Wells and Lillian Small Wells. Mr. Wells was a member of the West Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his mother, Lillian Small Wells of Fayetteville; father and step-mother, Roger and Sammie Wells of Fayetteville; sisters, Bonnie Wells of Franklin, Susan Jones of Nashville, Tara Cowans of Franklin; brother, Eric and Deardra Wells of Howell; nieces, Sheka Elder, Shena Wells, Jordyn Cowans; nephews, Derick Wells, Tevin Wells, Jonathan Cowans; and the special caregivers at Skills Development Center. Funeral services were conducted Saturday in the chapel of Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home with Pastor Desi Fletcher officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant View Cemetery.
