Bikers serve 64 meals on Christmas

Christmas Day Meals 01Members of the Currahee Motorcycle Club served 64 plates to local senior citizens Christmas morning from the Charles Gleghorn Community Center.

The group of Currahee members and volunteers – 27 in all – started cooking at 5 a.m. Christmas morning and then began delivering the meals at 11 a.m.

“By 11:45 (a.m.) everyone had their meals,” said Andy Cline, a member of the club, noting the plates included turkey and cornbread dressing, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, macaroni and cheese, Waldorf salad and a dinner roll.

“A bag of fresh fruit was included with each plate, compliments of Connie’s Country Produce in Park City,” added Cline.

The tradition of cooking and delivering Christmas Day meals to the elderly began with the local motorcycle club nine years ago. Last year, the club delivered meals to 43 senior citizens.

“This is something that we are just real proud to be able to do,” said Cline. “We plan to continue the tradition for as long as we can, and, as always, we welcome any volunteers who would like to help.”
