Lincoln County High School’s Lady Falcons picked up a win on the road in last week’s action on the hardwood.
The ladies won over Marshall County, 65-54, and are off to an 8-2 start this season.
It’s early in District 8-AAA play with Columbia, Franklin County and Shelbyville off to a 1-0 start. LCHS, Lawrence County and Tullahoma are 0-1.
LCHS got off to a fast start against Lewisburg, up 15-2 with 2:34 in the first quarter. But, the Tigerettes won the final minutes, 8-4. The ladies were up 19-10 at the end of one. Khaila King added 9 points in the period.
Marshall County won the second period, 16-12. Fouls became an issue early for the Lady Falcons, tagged with 15 in the first half. Coach Herman Hardin went deep in his bench early, putting 11 girls on the floor in the two periods. At the break, the ladies were up 31-26.
The Tigerettes stayed within a 10-point margin most of the second half. LCHS won the third frame, 17-12, led by Cortney Storey who scored 11 in the period.
With 4:20 remaining in the game, Rebecca Hone gave the ladies their largest lead of the night, up 56-39. In the final period, Coach Hardin gave everyone minutes on the floor. The ladies won the quarter, 17-16, to finish with the win.
Storey led for the ladies with 25; King finished with 14; Morgan Higgins, 9; Shy Buchanan, 8; Elizabeth Faulkner, 4; McKinley Slayton, 3; and Rebecca Hone added 2.
The ladies were 18 of 41 inside and 4 of 9 from the arch with Storey, Buchanan, Slayton and Faulkner having one each. From the line, the ladies were 17-27 with Storey going 10 of 11.
LCHS finished with 19 turnovers; Lewisburg had 21. The ladies edged out on the boards, 38-34.
Over the Christmas break, the ladies are playing in two holiday tournaments. On Dec. 20 and 21, the Lady Falcons were to play in the Huntsville Times Christmas Classic. On Dec. 27 and 28, the ladies will play in the Wildcat Holiday Tournament in Hixson.
