Ninth Grade Academy’s Falcons split in action on the hardwood last week. Thursday, the NGA boys won at home over Moore County. On Monday of last week, the Falcons went down to Lawrence County.
The Falcons picked up their third win of the season, defeating the Raiders at home, 61-35.
The boys were without two starters, Tyler McCown and Ryan Hall, due to illness.
The Falcons controlled the game from the opening tip-off. NGA was up 11-4 at the end of one and 29-18 by the break.
In the third, the Falcons poured in 20 points coming from seven on the roster. NGA won the second half, 32-17, for the win.
Eli Eason led the scoring with 17; Dylan Anderson had 13; Blake Bassham, 9; Shelton Smith and William Arnold, 6; Nick Barnes, 4; Eli Slayton, Logan Wheat and Dillon Jean had 2.
The Falcons were 19 of 32 from the paint and 1 for 7 from the arch coming from Bassham.
NGA picked up 12 steals led by Smith with 7. The Falcons had 16 turnovers with 6 for the Raiders.
Ninth Grade Academy pulled 33 boards; Moore County had 17.
Monday NGA traveled to Lawrence County for a boys’ only match-up. The Falcons went down, 46-39.
In typical Wildcat form, Lawrence County played near mistake-free basketball, turning the ball over just one time. The ‘Cats shot the ball well, shooting 68 percent from the floor.
NGA trailed 17-11 at the end of one but slowed down the Wildcats offensively in the second. The Falcons trailed 26-20 at the break.
Ninth Grade Academy came back in the third, led by Tyler McCown, who poured in 8 points, hitting two from the arch. Dylan Anderson gave the Falcons the lead late in the period. At the end of three, NGA was up 35-33.
But, the lead would be short-lived. The Wildcats put the foot back on the gas, tying the game in their second possession of the period. Lawrenceburg won the 8 minutes, 13-4, to finish with the win.
Eli Eason led for NGA with 11 points. Shelton Smith followed with 9; Tyler McCown, 8; Ryan Hall, 6; Nick Barnes, 3; and Dylan Anderson scored 2.
The Falcons were 13 of 31 inside and 3 of 10 from the arch. McCown had two 3-pointers, Eason had one. From the line, NGA was 3 of 10.
The Falcons finished with 13 turnovers.
Ninth Grade Academy won the boards, 33-22.
NGA’s game with Coffee County scheduled for Monday night was cancelled. The Falcons return to action Jan. 7 traveling to Moore County. Forrest comes to town Jan. 10. Game times are at 6 p.m.
