Lincoln County High School’s Falcons picked up a big win last week in District 8-AAA action, defeating Shelbyville on the road Friday night.
Saturday, the Falcons went down at home to Giles County.
LCHS came from behind for the win over the Eagles, 51-50. Shelbyville was up 17-9 at the end of the first quarter.
The Falcons began the road to recovery winning the second frame, 19-16, and trailing, 33-28, at the break. B.J. Thompson accounted for 13 of Lincoln County’s points.
The LCHS rally continued in the third. The Falcons were up 43-42 at the end of three.
Shelbyville came back in the fourth, taking the lead, 50-46 with three minutes remaining in the game. But, from that point, the Falcons shut down the Eagles defensively, and Tradarius Christian bombed a shot from the arch. With 47 ticks on the clock, B.J. Thompson gave the Falcons the lead, 51-50. Shelbyville had the final possession of the game but never got off a shot.
B.J. Thompson finished with a double-double, scoring 21 points and pulling 14 rebounds. Justin Blackwell had 11; Christian, 10; Ty Hadley, 7; and Ty Lewter scored 2.
From the paint, the Falcons were 17 of 35 and 3 of 15 from the arch. From the line, LCHS was 8 of 17.
Christian had 2 from long range. B.J. Thompson had one.
The Falcons had 16 turnovers to 14 for the Eagles. It was a battle under the boards with the Falcons pulling 38. Shelbyville had 37.
Giles County
Lincoln County went down to Giles County at home Saturday night, 58-49.
The Bobcats won the first quarter, 18-8, and had the lead, 27-17, at the break.
Giles expanded their margin, winning the third, 17-9, on top 44-26 at the end of three.
In the fourth, the Falcons cut the margin to 8 points with 2:25 remaining the game, but that was as close as it would get.
B.J. Thompson led for LCHS with 17. Christian had 10; Tyler Jones, 9; Jaquez Thompson, 3; Xavier Talley-Hyde, Hadley, Lewter, Blackwell and Riley Malone had 2.
The Falcons were 15 of 28 from the paint and 4 of 17 from the arch. From the line, Lincoln County was 7 of 11.
Jones had 3 from the arch; Jaquez Thompson had one.
LCHS finished with 28 rebounds; Giles had 27.
The Falcons turned the ball over 21 times; the Bobcats had 19.
For their next action, the Falcons travel to Coffee County Friday night with game time at 6 p.m.
