Lady Falcons split in week’s action

Lincoln County High School’s Lady Falcons split in basketball action last week. Saturday night, the ladies took an easy win at home over Giles County. Friday, LCHS went down on the road in their first district match-up of the season in Shelbyville.

The ladies are now 6-2 overall.

Giles County

It was all Lady Falcons hosting the Lady Bobcats. LCHS took the win, 66-46.

The ladies jumped out to an early lead, up 21-2 at the end of the first quarter. Cortney Storey poured in 13 points in the period, hitting 3 from the arch.

Both teams picked up 17 points in the second. Lincoln County was up 38-19 at the break.

LCHS won the second half, 28-27, for the win.  Morgan Higgins added 8 points in the third.

Everyone got minutes on the floor. Nine put points on the board. Storey led for the ladies with 17. Higgins finished with 12. McKinley Slayton had 10; Khaila King, 9; Elizabeth Faulkner, 8; Whitney Graham, 5; Amy Ann McCormick and Shy Buchanan, 2; and Rebecca Hone scored 1.

The Lady Falcons were 18 of 35 from the paint and 8 of 24 from the arch. From the line, the ladies were 6 of 14. Storey and Slayton had 3 from long range; Graham and Faulkner had 1 each.

LCHS picked up 25 points off 18 Giles County turnovers. The ladies had 9 miscues.

The Lady Falcons won the boards, 38-34.

Shelbyville

Friday night the ladies look a tough loss on the road, falling to Shelbyville, 46-41.

LCHS was up 10-7 at the end of one, but the Lady Eagles won the second frame, 18-12, and went into the break on top, 25-22.

Both teams struggled to put the ball in the hole in the third quarter. The Lady Falcons won the 8 minutes, 6-4.

Shelbyville started the fourth quarter with an 11-2 run, but the ladies battled back, trailing 42-41 with 1:03 remaining in the game. The Lady Eagles made the shots from the line in the final minute, winning the fourth period, 17-13, for the win. In the final frame, Shelbyville picked up 9 points from the line.

By the end of the game, the Lady Eagles went to the line 24 times. LCHS attempted nine.

Storey led for the ladies with 18 points. King had 12; Buchanan, 4; Faulkner, 3; Slayton and Graham had 2.

From the paint, the ladies were 15 of 38 and 2 of 14 from long range. From the line, the ladies were 5 of 9. Storey and Faulkner each had one from the arch.

Shelbyville had 21 turnovers, giving up 20 points, while LCHS had 12.

The Lady Eagles won the boards, 38-27.

For their next action, the ladies travel to Coffee County on Friday. Game time is at 6 p.m.
