Lady Tigers battle with ‘Dogs, Cougars

Fayetteville High School’s Lady Tigers matched up with Cornersville and Middle Tennessee Christian last week.

The ladies battled with the Lady Bulldogs, but went down hard to the Lady Cougars.

Cornersville

Friday night the ladies went down on the road, 49-39, against Cornersville.

With a roster of seven players, injuries continued to add to the depth issues for Coach Kim Dye. Tamia Baker was out this week, leaving the coach with a pool of six players to use on the floor.

The ladies battled all four quarters, keeping the margin within 10 points most of the game. At the break, the Lady Bulldogs were up 27-19.

It got exciting late in the fourth frame when Jasmine Parks scored, making it a two-point ball game with the ladies trailing 40-38. But, Cornersville answered with a 3-pointer with 2:18 remaining in the game. The momentum carried the Lady ‘Dogs through the final minutes to finish with the win.

Trevah Thompson led for the Lady Tigers with 17 points. Paeshence Thompson and Jasmine Parks added 6; Liz Gurley, 4; Lexie Horton and Kerry Brown scored 3.

The ladies had two from the arch, coming from Horton and Brown.

FHS was 7 of 13 from the line.

MTCS

The ladies went down on the road to the Lady Cougars, 62-18, on Tuesday of last week. The district rivals (3-1) came into the match-up with wins over Culleoka and Mt. Pleasant. The Lady Cougars went down to Friendship Christian in a high-scoring shootout.

MTC dominated the game, up 33-11 at the break, and took the second half, 29-7, for the win.

Baker had a shot from the arch for the ladies. FHS was 3 of 16 from the line.

For their next action, the ladies host Community Friday night with game time at 6 p.m.
