City’s Tigers edge LEAD in tourney

The Tigers went down in a barn-burning overtime, 79-76, to the Loretto Mustangs on Monday of last week.

 

Over the Thanksgiving holidays, FHS played in the Forrest Classic in Chapel Hill.

 

Against the Mustangs with 1:48 remaining in the game, FHS was up 65-59. Loretto went on a 7-2 run in the remaining time. With 40 ticks in regulation, the Mustangs knotted it at 67-67. The Tigers couldn’t put it in the hole their final possession, sending it into free basketball.

 

The refs blew the tip-off of the overtime period; they didn’t change directions from the game opening tip in the circle. The Mustangs took possession of the ball. The Tigers headed to their end of the court. Loretto got an uncontested basket starting the final four minutes.

 

Once the Mustangs took the lead, FHS never recovered the lead. Loretto won the period, 12-9, for the win. Ethan Fowler scored 8 points in the O/T for the visitors, dropping 2 free throws with 7 ticks remaining to seal the win.

The Tigers picked up 24 points, hitting 8 from the arch. Michael Parks and Nick Hopkins had three each. Aaron Parks had two.

 

Five from FHS scored in double digits. Nick Hopkins and James Keith finished with 18. Keith had a double-double, pulling 10 rebounds. Michael Parks scored 17; Aaron Parks, 13; and Isaiah Thompson had 10.

 

The Tigers were 12 of 21 from the line.

 

Forrest Classic

FHS matched up with LEAD Academy on Friday and finished on top, 43-42.

 

The Tigers trailed 22-21 at the break and 35-34 at the end of three.

 

Michael Parks hit a three in the final frame with Dorian Thompson adding a couple baskets. James Keith and Andrew Lawson dropped shots from the line to finish with the win.

 

Keith led with 12; Nicholas Hopkins, 11; Michael Parks, 9; Dorian Thompson, 6; Isaiah Thompson, 4; and Andrew Lawson had 1.

Three pointers came from Michael Parks with 3 and Nicholas Hopkins with 3.

 

Saturday the Tigers were defeated by Gabriel Christian Academy, 73-68.

 

FHS was up 31-28 at the break, but the Eagles won the third quarter, 24-14, taking the advantage, 52-45.

 

The Tigers won the fourth, 23-21, but didn’t recover from the third period. James Keith went 7 of 8 from the line in the final frame.

 

Nicholas Hopkins set the pace with 23 points; James Keith, 20; Aaron Parks, 15; Dorian Thompson,4; Isaiah Thompson, Darren Patterson and Andrew Lawson scored 2.

 

Aaron Parks had three from the arch, and Nicholas Hopkins had two.

 

For their next action, the Tigers travel to Middle Tennessee Christian Tuesday before traveling to Cornersville on Friday. Game time is at 6 p.m.
