Christmas parades nearing
Christmas parades for the City of Fayetteville as well as the Town of Petersburg are both approaching.
The City of Fayetteville Parks and Recreation Department’s Annual Christmas Parade will be Saturday, Dec. 15, at 5 p.m.
This year’s theme is, “A Christmas Night to Remember.”
Kimberly Essex, news anchor for WAFF-TV, Huntsville, Ala., is this year’s grand marshal. Kimberly has a bachelor’s degree in broadcast communications from the University of Montevallo and is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She has won numerous awards and serves on the board of directors for several organizations in Madison County, Ala.
Unity School’s volleyball team and Riverside Christian Academy’s football team are co-parade marshals. Unity’s volleyball team has been the county champions for three consecutive years, and Riverside Christian Academy’s football team is the 2012 MTAC State Champions, Division 2.
Applications to participate in the parade may be picked up at the Recreation Center. Call (931) 433-6059 for additional information.
Petersburg will host its annual Christmas parade, this year themed Christmas Music Madness, Saturday, Dec. 8.
Line-up begins at 3 p.m., and the parade starts at 4:30 p.m. Activities continue until 6:30 p.m.
“We hope that this parade is even bigger than the record-breaking one last year,” said Bridgett Smith, who is helping organize the event. “A chili supper will be in the Picking and Grinning building during the parade as well.”
