Vote on your favorite LC Live commercial
You can vote on your favorite of three commercials produced by Lincoln County High School students on The Times’ website at www.elkvalleytimes.com.
The three commercials, presented by Lincoln County Live’s student production company division which calls itself The Bermuda Triangle, appear in a video on The Times’ home page, where the newspaper also has an online poll that asks viewers to cast their vote for one of the three commercials.
The first commercial is called The Nerd, the second, Apocalypse, and the third, The Burglary.
One of the commercials will be submitted to Doritos’ 13th annual Crash the Super Bowl contest as part of the project, which got its start last year when LCHS teachers Terri Crawford, Andi Birdsong and Karen Watt began discussing the idea of having the teens produce a commercial as part of an interdisciplinary learning experience.
Seven LCHS classrooms divided into teams. Crawford’s advanced art students were charged with creating three concepts for an ad. These concepts were passed on to Watt’s interactive multimedia classrooms, and Birdsong’s business management classes to develop further. In addition, both chorus, taught by Angela Beale, and band, taught by Brandon Grieves, were also involved in the project and provided music.
With the completion of the project, the art student initiators were also expected to critique the ads and determine how closely the commercials matched their original concepts, much like an ad agency would do.
The project has many practical applications in that it teaches students how to cast, film and edit videos, how to become educated about product placement and market a product, and how to develop a business management plan.
