Lady Falcons take win in home opener

Lincoln County High School’s Lady Falcons (1-1) hung on for a win in their home opener last week.

Thursday night the ladies defeated Siegel, 52-49. On Tuesday, the ladies traveled to Page High School and went down to the Lady Patriots, 55-36.

Siegel is a member of District 7-AAA out of Murfreesboro; Page belongs to District 12-AA in Williamson County.

It seemed the ladies were on their way to a double digit win. The Lady Stars chipped away at a 15-point fourth quarter deficit, turning it onto a barnburner.

Lincoln County opened strong. Shy Buchanan and Elizabeth Faulkner nailed 3-pointers in the opening minutes to set the tone. Cortney Storey was four for four from the line in the 8 minutes. LCHS was up 14-11 at the end of one.

The second frame went to the ladies, 15-11, with points coming form Khiana Miller, Storey, Morgan Higgins, Khaila King and Whitney Graham. The Lady Falcons were up 29-22 at the break.

With 7:21 in the fourth, Lincoln County was up 45-30. From that point, the momentum changed to the Lady Stars. Floor mistakes haunted the ladies, giving up easy baskets to the visitors.

There was 4:37 remaining in the game when Higgins added the next score for the ladies; it was 47-39 ball game. Storey added two from the line with 2:16 on the clock. LCHS was back up, 49-39.

In the next two minutes, Siegel added 7 unanswered points. With 40 ticks on the clock, Faulkner dropped a basket; the ladies were up 51-46. The Lady Stars made it a 2-point ball game with 10 seconds remaining. Buchanan dropped one from the line with 7 seconds remaining, and Lincoln County was up, 52-49. The floor-length shot by the Lady Stars missed its mark, and LCHS had the win.

Siegel won the final eight minutes, 19-9.

Storey led for the ladies with 19; Faulkner, 8; Miller, 7; Buchanan and King, 6; Higgins and Graham, 3.

Lincoln County was 16 of 46 from the paint and 4 of 14 from the arch.

From the line, the ladies were 16 of 24. Storey finished 9 of 10.

Faulkner had 2 from the arch. Buchanan and Graham had one.

The ladies dominated the glass, 40-28. King had 10 rebounds, and Higgins pulled 8.

The ladies opened their season on the road at Page High School in Franklin and were defeated, 55-36.

LCHS trailed 14-9 at the end of the first quarter. The ladies were behind 30-20 by the intermission.

In the third, the Lady Falcons cut the margin to single digits, trailing 41-32, but that was as close as it would get.

The Lady Patriots salted it away, taking the fourth quarter, 14-4, for the win.

Storey led for the ladies with 13 points; Faullkner finished with 11; McKinley Slayton, 6; Shy Buchanan, 4; and Khaila King had 2.

Faulkner had 3 from the arch, Slayton added 2. Storey was 5 of 5 from the line.

The ladies were 11 of 56 from the paint and 5 of 31 from the arch. From the line, LCHS was 9 of 13.

Page pulled 46 off the glass; the ladies had 42. Storey led with 8 boards, and Faulkner pulled 7.

For their next action, the ladies travel to Moore County Tuesday. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
