Ninth Grade Academy split in their first week action on the road in Coffee County.
The Lady Falcons picked up a win, 53-18. The Falcons went down, 50-42.
The ladies won the first quarter, 11-9. From that point on, the game belonged to the Lady Falcons.
NGA was up 25-15 at the break. The ladies won the third period 19-0. The fourth quarter went to NGA, 9-3, to finish with the 53-18 win.
Sy Buchanan led with 14 points; Bethany Lamon, 12 (1 3-pointer); Samantha Williams, 9; Becca Lewter, 5; Lauren Gower and Makinley Fitch, 4; Brianna Sanders and Morgan Frame, 2; Jessie Ferguson, 1.
The ladies were 18 of 45 form the paint and 1 of 8 from the arch. From the line, NGA was 11 of 26.
For their next action, the Lady Falcons travel to Hazel Green Nov. 26 in a girls only match-up at 6 p.m. On Nov. 29, NGA hosts Franklin County, also at 6 p.m.
This year’s NGA boys are athletic, but Coach Horton has 10 players in transition from the football field to the gym.
The Red Raiders shot the ball well, hitting 6 from the arch, and were 10 of 16 from the line. Coffee got off to a quick start Monday night, up 15-7 in the first.
The second quarter went to Coffee, 16-12, up 31-19 at the break.
NGA won the second half, 23-19, but didn’t recover from the first quarter deficit.
The Red Raider JV finished with the win, 50-42.
Nick Barnes led for the Falcons with 14 points; Shelton Smith followed with 7; Ryan Hall and Tyler McCown, 6; William Arnold, 4; Austin Bennett and Dylan Anderson, 2; and Blake Bassham had 1.
McCown had one 3-pointer for the Falcons.
NGA was 9 of 20 from the line.
For their next action, the Falcons host Franklin County on Nov. 29 with game time at 6 p.m.
