Santas abound at Gill home
Rosemary Gill has been collecting Santa related items for 25 years and enjoys inviting other Santa lovers to enjoy it. Last year the Rene and Susan Cruz children, Alehxea, Illeana, Maria, Evelyn, and Nicholas, had a special visit to her home to see her collection. She is hosting an open house from 1 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9, to share her collection.
For the past 25 years, Rosemary Gill has been collecting anything related to Santa Claus, and each year she places the growing collection on display at her home for others to enjoy.
These items range from postage stamps to a life-size, talking Santa. She currently has 1,043 pieces in her collection.
“Over the last two years I’ve probably had a hundred or more visitors,” said Gill.
“Each year all these items come out of hiding and are put on display at her house. This process takes approximately eight weeks,” said Phyllis Holt, adding, “Sometimes a good elf or two will help out.”
Asked whether she has any favorites, Gill replied, “I have a lot of favorites.” One, given to her by her son, Don, years ago is a framed cover of “Progressive Farmer”, a magazine that portrays a Santa on a tractor bearing a license plate number that matches the year she was born.
Another favorite is a free-standing polar bear with Santa sitting on its back. Santa is wearing a purple, fur-trimmed outfit.
Father Jose Kariamadam of St. Anthony’s Church, where Gill has been a member for 40 years, has often visited the Gill’s home and has a favorite Santa, too.
It is Rosemary’s custom to invite other Santa lovers who know her to enjoy her collection. She will be having an open house on Sunday, Dec. 9, from 1 to 6 p.m.
